Crowns

Sometimes a tooth may become damaged or decayed to the point where a filling or veneer is no longer appropriate. In some of these cases, a crown is used to protect your teeth or improve your smile. A crown is a type of dental restoration that uses material to completely cover the existing tooth.

As in many restorative dental procedures, there are many materials that can be used to make the crown. These include a wide variety of new aesthetic ceramics, which provide strength and beauty, as well as tried and true materials like porcelain fused to metal or gold.

When you come in for a crown, our doctors will first thoroughly explain the procedure, taking care to answer all of your questions and put your mind at ease. The actual procedure involves shaping the underlying tooth and taking a mold, so that a custom fit crown can be produced in the lab. A temporary crown will be put in place while you wait for the final crown to be created.

All of our doctors are very experienced at fitting crowns. For over 20 years they have been serving the people of Charlottesville. That means they have the know how and the sensitivities to perform this work with expert care and keep you comfortable at the same time.
