I began considering a career in dentistry during my last semester of college at the University of Virginia. While searching for careers that would complement my degree in biology, with certification to teach secondary school science, I was offered a summer job working as a dental assistant in my hometown of Oakton, Virginia. I very quickly discovered that I had an aptitude for working with my hands, and I loved the one on one interaction with patients. I thoroughly enjoyed educating them about their dental procedures and helping them attain a higher level of oral health. So, having graduated from UVA in 1987 and worked as a dental assistant for a year, I applied to dental school and never looked back.
I graduated from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in 1992 and began working as an associate dentist in a general dentistry practice in Charlottesville, Virginia. In 2000, I became the first female president of the local dental society. I partnered with Dr. David Gilrain and opened Gilrain and Brooks Dentistry in 2001. Since then, our practice has grown to include an associate dentist, five highly skilled and dedicated dental hygienists, and an extraordinary support staff. Together, we strive to provide excellent dentistry in a friendly and peaceful environment. Our longtime staff is like my second family, as are my longtime patients!
In my free time, I am an avid walker, reader and soccer fan. I love spending time with my husband Paul, my son Garrett, and my large extended family.
