I always dread impressions but these were done in a smooth and non-painful way. While I am glad they are over, I have to say the whole affair went better than it usually does.
Dr. Gilrain and all his staff are very courteous and professional. I am very happy with the services I’ve received at this office and would recommend them to anyone.

Dr. Gilrain is so friendly, knowledgeable, and gentle. But what I love the most is I trust him 100% not to push procedures on his patients that are unnecessary. If it’s a real problem, then he recommends it be fixed; if it’s something that you can take a wait and see approach with, or even not worry about, he’ll let you know that too. After 15 years going to this office, I trust Dr. Gilrain’s judgement completely. His staff are a collection of gems: Sheri, his hygienist, is super, Jo who works the front desk, Jenny, who oversees insurance, and his assistant Wendy. If I were going to staff my own dental practice, I’d want to steal them all away. When we first moved to Charlottesville, I was so worried about finding a good dentist/hygienist for my son, who had been traumatized by a former pediatric dentist where we formerly lived. I will never forget and will be forever grateful for the slow, compassionate care Sheri took of my son, while she patiently cured him of his understandable anxiety. You can’t put a price on that! Bottom line: If you want fantastic dental care, give Dr. Gilrain a call.
If you have ever had an aversion to dentists, you haven’t seen Dr. Brooks. She is wonderful. She examines very carefully and thoughtfully. No pain! Her office is as spotless and hygienic as it was before Covid. Only one or two patients visit at a time, well-distanced from each other. The hygienist is outstanding as is the front desk. It could take some time to fit into the schedule, but patients will not be disappointed.
In the fifteen plus years I have been helped by Dr. Gilrain, I have had consistent thoughtful service by his practice. His approach is to explain everything in the treatment transparently, with all of the options clearly laid out in a dispassionate explanation. I appreciate and trust his judgement. His staff practices in the same way: thoughtful, kind and smart.

I have never been so impressed by a dental clinic – ever! Mary was very accommodating to my fears about tooth pain, she explained everything she was going to do, and was very concerned for my fears. Amy and Mary worked together to enter my data (I’m a brand-new patient) into the computer; Dr. Brooks was gentle, precise, and thorough in her explanations of what my next steps are. It was tough saying goodbye to my long-time hygienist when she retired, but Meredith has been absolutely wonderful! She is very upbeat and professional and I highly recommend her. The front desk staff, the hygienists, the dental assistants and the dentists are all top notch!
Dr. Brooks and her assistant Melissa could not have been more kind and helpful. Though I was not yet an established patient, they worked me into their schedule to evaluate an unexpected dental issue. A mistake on my part caused me to be late for my appointment, and they were so patient and understanding. Dr. Brooks was incredibly thorough in her examination and explanation. I am very happy to have secured them as my new dental care professionals!

I’m old enough to have been to quite a few dentists. I’ve experienced the full range. Dr. Gilrain is absolutely the best.
My family and I have been going to this practice for over twenty years. I can truly say that we’ve never been dissatisfied. Today, Dr. Brooks put sealants on our teen’s teeth. She found a small cavity and found a way to fill it in the same day since she knew that my son was leaving for school soon. This flexibility and kindness has been displayed many times before. I also have the most beautiful crown ever that was created by Dr. Brooks to put on my implant. I highly recommend the entire practice.
With the pandemic era, Gilrain and Brooks have provided a safe, clean environment I felt comfortable and safe. The dental hygienist listened carefully and answered questions I had about brushing and flossing.After she cleaned my teeth, I wanted to smile at everyone; however, wearing a mask, no one could see my happy smile!! Dr. Gilrain has such a calming demeanor that when he explained and suggested a crown, I was comforted..that no tooth had to be pulled!! Having been a patient of his for years, I have complete trust. I think Dr. Gilrain is upfront and honest! I am very appreciative of the friendly staff; they make me feel that I am among friends. Thank You Gilrain and Brooks!

Excellent everything
We have always had great a experience with this practice and with Dr. Brooks. The hygienists are just beyond compare; professional and skilled yet warm, considerate and friendly. They seem like friends you haven’t seen in six months, and it’s always a pleasure to see them again. Really appreciate the way each step is explained in an honest and respectful manner to young children. It inspires trust and they always look forward to their next visit because they are made to feel special! And we also appreciate that options are clarified when treatment is necessary, and that out-of-pocket cost is something this practice is conscious of. With multiple and extended family members of all ages in the same practice I can say that all of us have had positive experiences and would never consider going anywhere else.
